India-administered Kashmir: Days after the Indian government rejected resignation videos of Special Police Officers (SPO) as “false propaganda” by terrorists, the Jammu & Kashmir government admitted on Tuesday that the quitting spree in south Kashmir is real and still ongoing.

The resignation videos of policemen went viral on social media following the kidnapping and killing of three policemen, just days after Hizbul Mujahideen militants had put out a “resign or die” threat video. Sources in Kashmir Valley say more than 40 SPOs and policemen have resigned since Friday.

To prevent policemen from uploading their own resignation videos on social media, as had been directed by the Hizbul Mujahideen in its threat video, the Indian government has blocked internet services in south Kashmir. The main areas facing disruption of internet services are Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts of Jammu & Kashmir.

The three policemen, all SPOs, were dragged out of their homes in Shopian in south Kashmir before daybreak and killed by militants. Their bodies with multiple bullet wounds were found later in an orchard near their village.
