Pakistan: At least 32 people have been killed and 31 injured in an explosion on Friday in Kalaya Bazar area of lower Orakzai tribal district, according to local hospital sources.

The explosion, which according to officials was a suicide bombing, took place near a Shi’ite mosque on Friday morning. The injured have been shifted to the KDA teaching hospital in Kohat.

Security sources launched a rescue-and-search operation in the area following the attack.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan “strongly condemned” the terrorist attack in lower Orakzai as well as the one foiled on Chinese Consulate in Karachi.

PM Imran Khan labelled the twin attacks “a planned campaign to create unrest in the country by those who do not want Pakistan to prosper”. “Let there be no doubt in anyone’s mind that we will crush the terrorists, whatever it takes,” he affirmed.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast in lower Orakzai.

The explosion in lower Orakzai was the third terrorism related incident in Pakistan on Friday. Earlier on Friday, there was an attack targeting the Chinese Consulate situated in Karachi’s Clifton area which was foiled by Pakistani security forces. The attack was claimed by separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). In a second incident, a civilian vehicle carrying employees of a gas and oil exploration company was targeted in an IED blast in Dera Bugti, Balochistan, causing four injuries. The IED blast in Dera Bugti was claimed by Balochistan Republican Army (BRA).

UPDATE:

On Saturday, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack in Orakzai.
