13th September 2018: At least five security personnel were injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on a patrol team in Boya area of North Waziristan Agency on Thursday. At least one of the injured is currently in serious condition. The injured security personnel were identified as Naek Rehman Zafar, Sepoy Syed Jabbar Shah, Sepoy Ali Raza, Sepoy Khurram and Sepoy Muhammad Ali.

Shortly after the attack, Jihadi group Hizbul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack as part of its ongoing Operation Ibne Qasim against Pakistani security forces. Statement released by Hizbul Ahrar’s spokesman Dr. Aziz Yousafzai said that two personnel died on the spot and the gunmen safely returned to their bases.

According to last reports from the area, Pakistani security forces surrounded the attack site and were conducting a search operation. Since Pakistan Army’s Zarb-e-Azb military operation, terrorism in North Waziristan started steadily declining, but recently North Waziristan has seen a rising number of small scale terrorist attacks, mostly targeting Pakistani security personnel.



Three Pakistani soldiers died in the search operation in North Waziristan which ended with Pakistani soldiers exchanging gunfire with Jihadi terrorists, resulting in the death of 4 militants, including a senior commander identified as Commander Aftab, and three Pakistani soldiers.
