Hizbul Ahrar claims targeting two Pakistani soldiers in sniper fire in Chitral

Chitral: On Friday, Afghanistan-based Jihadist group Hizbul Ahrar claimed killing two Pakistani soldiers who were on patrol in a sniper attack in Chitral’s Arando district. According to Hizbul Ahrar, the attack was carried out in early morning.

There could be no immediate confirmation about the attack from Pakistani military. It is also unclear whether the attack was a cross-border attack.

Chitral is the largest district in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, covering an area of 14,850 km². It is the northernmost district of Pakistan. It shares a border with Gilgit-Baltistan to the east, with Kunar, Badakshan and Nuristan provinces of Afghanistan to the north and west, and with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa districts of Swat and Dir to the south. A narrow strip of Wakhan Corridor separates Chitral from Tajikistan in the north.
