Syria: A senior commander of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al-Qaeda affiliated group, was gunned down by unidentified gunmen in Syria’s Idlib, it was reported on Tuesday.

The target of the gun attack has been identified as Commander Abu Talhat al-Iraqi, an Iraqi national and a senior figure in Syrian Al-Qaeda. The attack took place on the road to Deir al-Gharbi south of Maarrat al-Numan when al-Iraqi was traveling in his car. His driver was reportedly injured in the attack but survived.

This is reportedly the second attack targeting an Al-Qaeda figure in Syria in two days. Earlier on Monday there was another attack in Jabal al-Zawiya southern countryside of Idlib that also targeted a senior Al-Qaeda figure who was identified as Commander Sayyaf of Hurras al-Deen group, another Al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.
