On Thursday, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) released new audio tape by its ideologue Mufti Mazahim, commenting on Aasia Bibi case and the blasphemy law in Pakistan.

In the new audio tape, which is 7 minutes and 26 seconds in duration, Mufti Mazahim condemns Pakistani civil and military leaders and judiciary as well as Pakistan’s anti-terror policies. The TTP ideologue then goes on to comment on the blasphemy law issue in Pakistan, highlighting how Mumtaz Qadri was hanged and how Aasia Bibi was acquitted, while repeatedly condemning Pakistani leaders. In the audio tape, Mufti Mazahim also threatens anyone in Pakistan who dares to ‘blaspheme’ against the Islamic religion, saying that TTP will carry out attacks against such people.

Deputy Director of ITCT Faran Jeffery, while talking to ITCT Newsdesk, said, “TTP is looking to revive its support within Pakistan by raking up this issue, and in the absence of a counter-narrative by Pakistani state, TTP will prove to be likely successful in resonating its message within Pakistan once again. It is also interested that TTP decided to double down on its stance on Aasia Bibi with an audio tape, since they had already released a statement last week.”

On the same day the new audio was released, TTP also claimed multiple cross-border attacks against Pakistani military in Bajaur Agency.
