Pakistan: On Wednesday an IED blast in Charmang district of Bajaur Agency targeted a vehicle, killing two people, including a former militant.
Two people riding the vehicle, identified as Amanullah and Gul Badin, died as a result of the explosion. Their vehicle was also totaled by the impact.
The blast was instantly claimed by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Noor Wali Mehsud group. In a statement released by its official propaganda channel Umar Media, TTP said that the target was a surrendered militant who was aiding Pakistani security forces in operations against jihadist militants as well as helping Pakistani border fencing team. The statement also talks about the past fatwa of TTP which declared its surrendered militants as legitimate targets for attacks.
Pakistani security forces sealed the area — which lies close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border — after the blast and started a search operation.
