Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan

Pakistan: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested two suspected terrorists with alleged links to the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday.

The CTD sources said that on intelligence tips-off, operations were conducted in different areas of Mansehra and Abbottabad in KP. As a result, two wanted suspects were arrested.

During operations, suspected TTP commander Azeem Jan alias Qari Khaksar resident of Madakhail District Torghar and another suspect Muhammad Anwar, son of Muhammad Ayub and resident of Shaik ul Bandi in Abbottabad, were apprehended.

The nabbed suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation, said CTD sources, adding important revelations and more arrests were expected.

The CTD press release stated that commander Azeem Jan was an active member of TTP Karachi wing and also remained a member of TTP Swat and Shangla wings. He was an expert trainer of suicide bombing operations and provided trained suicide bombers to the TTP. Azeem Jan was also the chief of financial affairs of TTP Miranshah wing, as per CTD sources. Azeem Jan was involved in the 2002 murder of Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl. Azeem Jan was also directly involved in the killing of Sunni leader Maulana Izhar ul Haq Jhangvi. Furthermore, he is also believed to be involved in the killing of SSP Chaudhary Aslam in Karachi.

CTD release further disclosed that commander Azeem Jan was also involved in the terrorist attack on French embassy staff in Karachi and provided trained suicide bombers for the attack on former President of Pakistan Gen. (R) Pervez Musharaf.
